1. Overview

You need to use a WAV file recorder program to record a vinyl LP if you want to convert it to a CD or group of MP3 files. The program stores the recording as a digital WAV format file on your hard disk.

Most general purpose WAV editors can be used for recording but they tend to be packed with functions, many of which the average user would never use. This makes them more complicated and time-consuming to configure and use than they need to be.

In contrast, LP Recorder has been designed with one purpose in mind - to record vinyl LPs. Connect the tape or line output from your stereo to the line input of your soundcard, enter a filename, select the recording input and press the record button. 

Additionally, LP Recorder can be used to record from virtually any sound source that you can connect to your line-input. It has successfully been used to record tapes, cassettes, MiniDiscs, radio programs etc. etc.

Special features of LP Recorder suited to recording vinyl, tapes etc. are:

9. Pause recording - useful for recording a selection of tracks from different LPs

11. The remaining recording time, based on the free space on your disk, is displayed

2. Minimum System Requirements

• MS Windows XP / 98 / ME / 2000
   
• Intel 233 MHz Pentium processor
   
• 800x600 SVGA display using Medium (16-bit) colours
   
• Windows compatible mouse
   
• A soundcard compatible with the standard Windows Mixer / Volume control. It must be capable of recording CD-format (16-bit, mono or stereo, 44.1Khz) WAV files and have a line-in input socket.
   
• At least 300Mb Free disk space (for approx. 30 Minutes' WAV storage)
   
• A suitable cable to connect the tape-out of your stereo amplifier to the line-in of your soundcard. See Turntable Setup in the LP Recorder Help file for more information.

NOTE: Some computers, particularly Laptop and Notebook models, have integrated audio chips with limited recording capabilities. Some of these are even restricted to mono microphone input. Use the trial version of LP Recorder to make sure that your computer has adequate facilities to produce satisfactory recordings.

If you are recording LPs or cassettes, you will find LP Ripper useful. It automatically splits a large WAV file recorded from one side of an LP into separate tracks. LP Ripper is also developed by CFB Software.

3. Installation

LP Recorder is distributed as a self-installing file lrsetup.exe

Install LP Recorder as follows:

1. Press the Windows Start button and select Run from the Start Menu.
    
2. Type the full name of the file (for example, C:\temp\lrsetup.exe)
    
3. Press the Enter key, and follow the prompts.
    
4. When the installation program has completed, run LP Recorder by selecting it from the Windows Start menu.
    
5. Select LP Recorder - Quick Start Guide from the Windows Start Menu to step you through your first recording.

All of the documentation is contained in the online Help file. When running LP Recorder, press the F1 key for context-sensitive help or select Help from the menu.

5. Ordering Information

5.1 Free Trial Version

The trial version of LP Recorder is available free of charge so you can check how useful it will be to you. It has all of the features of the registered full version except that each recording is limited to 4 minutes.

You are free to distribute the trial version. It may be given away to anyone, included on CD-ROM libraries, uploaded to WWW pages, ftp sites and bulletin boards, etc. as long as it is distributed in its complete original form.
 

5.2 Ordering LP Recorder

You can order the full version of LP Recorder in various currencies using:

Most on-line credit card orders can be processed in real-time and the full version downloaded to be used straight away.

Note: DO NOT distribute the registered full version of LP Recorder without the expressed written consent of the author.


5.3 Refund Policy

CFB Software's products are provided as trial versions that can be downloaded via our website. Use these 'try-before-you-buy' versions to ensure that they are compatible with your computer systems and satisfy all of your requirements before purchasing a full version.  All sales of full version licences are final. Once the access details for the full version have been issued they cannot be cancelled. Thus we are only able to provide refunds for accidental duplicate orders.

6. List of Files

The LP Recorder package installation program is a single file called lrsetup.exe 

After running lrsetup the following files are created in the directory that you specified:

• Display Audio Settings window when starting, if LP Recorder terminated when it was last used. This allows the user to change the soundcard settings that caused the problem.

• Prevent termination error Can't Find Audio Output Mixer Line to enable soundcards which do not have a combined input / output line to be used for recording.
• Synchronise level meters when playing Mono WAV files.
• Prevent freezing when recording in Mono on Windows 98.
• Prevent skip count being incorrectly changed when recording in Mono.

8. Licence Agreement

You should carefully read the following terms and conditions before using this software. Your use of this software indicates your acceptance of this licence agreement and disclaimer.

Trial Version

There are no restrictions to the number of computers that the trial version of LP Recorder may be installed on, or the number of people that can use it at any one time.

Registered Full Version

A registered full version of LP Recorder may be installed on one or more computers but may only be used by the single person in whose name it is registered.

Music Copyright

LP Recorder must not be used in any way which would contravene any music copyright laws applicable to the user.

LP Recorder is used entirely at the risk of the user. Although great care has been taken to eliminate defects during the development of LP Recorder, it is not claimed to be fault-free. No claims are made regarding its correctness, reliability or fitness for any particular purpose.
