What is HTML Converter?

HTML Converter is a free utility for converting special characters to corresponding HTML character codes (for example '©' -> '©' or '"' -> '"') in HTML, PHP and ASP files. These character codes are required by web browsers for displaying special characters correctly. HTML Converter will also handle correctly JavaScript and Cascading Style Sheet code. HTML Converter will analyze your documents before converting, so generic HTML code, PHP and ASP commands, JavaScript code and CSS definitions will be handled correctly.

Using HTML Converter

Using the application is very easy. Just drop a HTML/PHP/ASP file containing special characters onto HTML Converter. The special characters will be replaced with the HTML character codes. The process takes a few seconds at most. You can also drop whole folders of files onto the application's icon to convert several files in one go.

HTML Converter will analyze your documents before converting, so generic HTML code, PHP and ASP commands, JavaScript code and CSS definitions will be handled correctly.

Please notice that you can convert documents only by dropping files/folders onto HTML Converter's icon. However if you launch the application by double-clicking it, you will be able to set the sub-folder conversion setting on or off and change the character encoding of dropped files. Subfolder conversion means that HTML Converter will convert all folders which are inside the folder that you drop onto it's icon. When this feature is off, only files on the parent level of the dropped folder will be converted. Character set can be either MacRoman or ISO Latin-1. MacRoman encoding is usually used in documents made with Macintosh editors (like BBEdit), ISO Latin-1 is used in Windows and Linux world.

What's new in version 2.0?

• Rewritten from scratch. New conversion engine is written in pure ANSI C, which is about 10 times faster than previous version of HTML Converter.
• 100% Cocoa-application, so it runs as native application under Mac OS X.
• Support for ISO Latin-1 encoding added.
• Application is released also as command line tool (HTML Converter CLI), which is available for various platforms including Mac OS X, SunOS, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD and various distributions of Linux.
• Requires Mac OS X, but you can still get Mac OS 9-compatible version of HTML Converter (version 1.4) from MacZ Software site.
