This set includes all of my Classic icons in ‘icns’ format. This format makes the icons suitable for copying and pasting onto other files via the Show Info window. Note, however, that if you’d like to hack your HIToolbox.rsrc file to use these icons by default, you should probably head to my Web site, Phoenix Design <
http://www.wpi.edu/~phoenix>, and download the set from there, which includes a ResEdit file with all the IDs set correctly for you to just paste them into your HIToolbox.rsrc file. (I opted not to include that file here due to Xicons.com’s bandwidth considerations.)
This set itself is the property of me, Brian Ellis, but the individual icons in the set are actually the property of up to three people/entities: The base folder icon was mostly designed by the IconFactory <
http://www.iconfactory.com> as an icon for the Microsoft Office 2001 suite. I say “mostly” because I had to edit the icon quite a bit to get rid of the Office logo. The icon is, needless to say, used with permission. Secondly, most of the badges and logos used for things like the Movies folder and the AppleTalk Location file were designed by the faithful graphic designers over at Apple, and I have used most of them intact. Third, the composition of the icons themselves, as well as many of the design elements (such as the hand holding up the tray on all the server icons, which has never existed in a 128x128 pixel form before now) were all done by me.
If you’re not confused by now, you might consider a career in copyright law. Since I
am confused by this point, however, I think I’ll suffice it to say that I hold no claim to any material in these icons, and they can be used in whole or in part by anyone who so chooses. They can also be distributed together or in as many little pieces as you can come up with, so long as you don’t try to charge for them or include them in any work which you are charging for (this means shareware or commercial software). Don’t burst my little free software bubble and I won’t burst your capitalist one. Sound fair? Good! Enjoy.
