Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) |
Can I export data from Quicken and use it in iBank? |
Yes.
In Quicken 2002, open an account, select File>Export.
In the window that comes up choose "custom export", select
the range of transactions and then click export. In iBank,
select the account in which you want to import transactions,
choose File>Import QIF or QFX and then navigate to the file
that was just exported from Quicken.
|
How can I export my data? |
Select the account(s) for which you want to export data and then go to File>Export as QIF. |
How does iBank save? |
iBank saves everytime you change a transaction. This may seem like a lot, but it ensures that you won't loose data and because iBank is multi-threaded, the user interface won't freeze even if you have very large accounts. iBank also saves whenever the application is quit by the user. |
Where
is the iBank data file?
|
The
data file is stored in here: ~/Library/Application Support/IGG
Software/iBank Data (where "~" is your user directory.
Scheduled transactions, categories and memorized transactions
are stored in the iBank preference file (com.iggsoftware.iBank.plist).
|
Can
I download transactions from my bank's web site?
|
Yes, if your bank supports the QIF or QFX file format. After you have downloaded your transactions, simply drag and drop the downloaded file onto the iBank application icon, or from within iBank choose File>Import QIF or QFX... See the next question for more info |
What's up with importing bank transactions? |
iBank will only import transactions if the file containing the transaction data has an extension of qif or qfx. When you download transactions from some banks for Quicken, the downloaded file may have an extension such as "dload". If this is the case change it to "qfx". If you download transactions from your bank for QuickBooks, make sure the file extension is "qif".
|
Why do I get an error when importing qif or qfx files? |
iBank displays an error for one of three reasons: 1) you tried to import a qif file that contains categories (as opposed to transactions), 2) you tried to import a file that contains account information (as opposed to transactions) or 3) there was an error parsing the amount or check number of a transaction. Please keep in mind that just because an error occurred doesn't necessarily mean that the import wasn't complete.
|
Why do the dates for imported QIF files look wrong? |
Try changing the short date format in System Preferences. To do so go to System Preferences>International Pane and then the Date tab.
