Transactions are used for any movement of funds into or out of an account. The parts of a transaction are diagramed below.

Sub-Transactions: further organization

Sub-Transactions

Click a job event in the work day drawer and drag it around to change start and stop times.

Sub-transactions are used for when you want to keep track of where your money went beyond gross funds into or out of an account. For example, lets say you withdrawal $100.00 cash from your checking account at the ATM and you end up spending that money on a new mouse for your computer, groceries and dog food. Which category would you put the $100 ATM transaction under, groceries, computer or pet expense? This is where the beauty of sub-transactions comes in because they allow for further breakdown of transactions. So for the example above, you could put in three sub-transactions one for the mouse, another for the groceries and one for the dog food (see image below).

Sub-transactions are not involved in any of the calculations for computing your account balance. They are, however, used in the calculations for generating reports.

Scheduled Transactions

Do you make a monthly transfer from one account to another or have some other re-occurring transactions? No problem, iBank can take care of all of your scheduled transactions. To create a scheduled transaction go to Control>Scheduled Transactions or hit, command-option-S. On the window that appears, click the add button and a scheduled transaction will appear in the list. Select the item in the list and click the edit button.

In the sheet that comes down edit the name, amount and category fields for your scheduled transaction. Use the popup menus to set the frequency and which account will receive the scheduled transaction.

Memorizing Transactions and Categories
iBank automatically memorizes transactions and categories as you fill them in. As you continue to use iBank more and more of your transactions will become memorized and filling them in will be easier and easier as the name you are typing will auto-complete itself. To edit either the memorized transactions or memorized categories go the Control menu>Memorized Transactions or Memorized Categories, respectively.
