Cookies (registered only)

Web sites will very often give your browser small bits of information to store. This may be necessary for your current session or may span a much longer period of time. A good example is when a site requires you to log in with a name and password before you can download. Very often, the fact that you successfully logged in will be stored in a browser cookie so you don't have to log in all the time.

Download Wizard can, in most cases, make use of cookies that your browser is given to store. To turn on cookie support, go into Preferences and select the "Cookies" tab. The checkbox labelled "Use browser cookies" turns on or off cookie support. Since different browsers store cookies differently, there are a number of radio buttons to select the browser from which you want to obtain cookie information.

Currently, cookie support has been tested with Safari, Internet Explorer, OmniWeb, Netscape, Mozilla and Camino.

Note: Download Wizard obtains cookies from the cookie files used by your browser. Some browsers, Internet Explorer for example, do not write cookies out to their files until they quit. If Download Wizard has a problem retrieving a cookie, try restarting your browser.

Safari, Internet Explorer and OmniWeb

Selecting either of these browsers will simply tell Download Wizard to obtain cookie information from the respective browser's cookie store.

Netscape

The Netscape cookie format is used by several browsers -- Netscape, Mozilla, Chimera, etc. Unfortunately, each browser stores the cookie file in a different place. To further complicate matters, most of them use a randomly generated directory name so finding the cookie file is problematic. Therefore, a "Cookie File Location" selector is provided at the bottom to allow you to select the appropriate cookie file. In almost all cases the file is named cookie.txt. Here are some hints as to where to look for the file:
Netscape: ~/Library/Application Support/Chimera/Profiles/default/RANDOM_NAME/cookies.txt
Mozilla: ~/Library/Application Support/Chimera/Profiles/default/RANDOM_NAME/cookies.txt
Camino: ~/Library/Application Support/Chimera/Profiles/default/RANDOM_NAME/cookies.txt
