Generating parity files
Due to the distributed nature of Usenet, sometimes a large file that is uploaded on one server will not completely replicate to all other servers. Parity (or simply "PAR") files help downloaders recover missing data on servers where the uploaded file is incomplete.
To generate PAR files for your upload, first choose the files you wish to upload, then click Show advanced options in the upload sheet.
In the advanced options panel, check Generate PAR 2.0 parity files.
The PAR Redundancy setting controls how much missing file data can be successfully recovered if the downloader has all of the PAR files.
For example, if the PAR files have 10% redundancy, and the downloader has the complete set of PAR files, then they can successfully recover a file that has up to 10% of its data missing. If in doubt, the default 10% setting is usually fine.
The PAR Set Name field lets you name the PAR files separately from the names of the actual files you are posting.
It is a good idea to use PAR files if you are uploading a large file that would be tedious for you to have to re-upload again later due to missing parts.
