DragThing Help | Troubleshooting | Things to Try

Generally I don't expect people will have problems with DragThing by itself, but occasionally changes in the operating system or third party software can cause difficulties.

If DragThing suddenly stops working, or gives error messages, ask yourself if you recently changed anything. Did you upgrade to a new version of the Mac OS, or install a new piece of software? If so, there might be a connection.

It might be that there is a later version of the software available, or that it just doesn't work well under the version of the operating system you have.

If DragThing is crashing, the easiest way to find out what's causing the problem is to look at the crash report, which is generated whenever any application crashes.

When an application crashes a dialog will appear asking whether you want to submit a report. Click "Submit Report…" and a window will open showing you the crash report in the bottom half.

The crash report hopefully contains useful information about what happened. Send me any reports for DragThing and I'll see what I can find out.

One thing though - if you see any references in the crash report to "APEBundleMessage" or similar "_apeSomething" lines, it's most likely a "haxie" at work, especially if the crash occurs at login. Try disabling any haxies you have installed, and see if the crash goes away. If it does, it might be worth mailing the crash report to the authors of those utilities too.

If you do have any problems, please let me know at:

Of course DragThing might just have a bug. Check on www.dragthing.com to see if it is a known problem, and if I have a newer release of DragThing available that fixes it.

But if you think you've found a problem I don't know about, please tell me. It's helpful if you tell me what version of the Mac OS you are running, as well as the text of any error messages you are seeing. If you see a crash, any crash reports are appreciated too.
