Before you begin to create your advanced voice script within STFax, it is a wise idea to draft the design of the script on paper. By using this method you can quickly determine what will and will not work, change your mind and slowly work though the flow chart.
Firstly list all the functions you want your tree script to support. Do you need all office members to be available via STFax? Do you require remote access within the script? How about a fax on demand service? Will each office member have individual voice boxes and message greetings?
Next you need to account for problems that might occur within the script. For instance, does the script need to offer the choice of available extensions (in case a caller doesn't know the extension they require)? Or will they be given the choice of a general operator to transfer their call manually? What happens if an extension is unavailable? What happens if the caller doesn't have a touchtone telephone?
Once you have your questions answered, it is time to draft your tree:
In the above example the caller is greeted by the 'Menu' greeting which would state "Hello...press 1 for sales, press 2 for support or wait to be transferred to an operator". If the caller presses 1 or 2, they are transferred to the correct extension. If no touchtone is pressed, they are transferred to the general operator.
If the caller is transferred, but there is no answer, the are then directed to leave a message and an operator will return their call.
This is a simple example. Much more intense tree scripts can be generated, with menus with menus, offering numerous choices for the caller.
