Description:
-
Abstract:
-
This data set is the digital geologic province layer for map of South Asia.
The data set includes arcs, polgons, polygon labels, and attributes for
geologic provinces, as defined by the U.S. Geological Survey.
-
Purpose:
-
This data set provides one of the strategic tools to assist in the U.S.
Geological Survey World Energy Project. This digital geologic province
map was created specifically for the oil and gas assessment of selected
provinces of the World. This metadata addresses only the South Asia region
(Region 8) which is the subject of this cd_rom.

Polygons and line work for the geologic provinces are drawn on a digital
geologic cover (reg8_glg) included on the cd-rom. The geologic base map
(reg8_glg) is created from scanned images of UNESCO geologic maps of the
world. These maps are paper 1:5,000,000 and 1:10,000,000 scales. The geologic
province maps are not intended to be used at a scale of larger than 1:5,000,000!
This map is preliminary and has not been reviewed for conformity with U.S.
Geological Survey editorial standards or with the International Stratigraphic
Guide.
