"With more media interest and more media exposure it might seem, superficially, that women in business are rapidly achieving true equality. But I do not believe women have a chance in hell of achieving their deserved status and power in business within the foreseeable future. My daughters might see it, but I won't." 

In 1988 Anita Roddick, founder of the retail chain, The Body Shop, was awarded the OBE. Set up in 1976, her company which sells cosmetics and beauty products, has a policy of not testing their products on animals. The Body Shop  also campaigns for human rights and global environmental concerns. The firm, run by Roddick and her husband Gordon Roddick, is unusual in that they do not put profits first and their success puts paid to the idea that you need to be ruthless to get ahead.
