WithStyle (tm) Release Notes 1D0.0 Congratulations on your download of WithStyle, the complete style sheet manager and editor from Pecan Software Systems, Inc.! WithStyle was designed to be extremely easy to understand and use. If you grasp the Ventura style sheet concept, WithStyle is self-explanatory. Installing WithStyle -------------------- WithStyle uses the DOS ANSI.SYS driver. Assure that ANSI.SYS (which is part of your DOS distribution) is on the disk partition that you boot DOS from. Also assure that your CONFIG.SYS file has a line in it that reads DEVICE=ANSI.SYS If your CONFIG.SYS file doesn't have that line, use your favorite editor to add it (it makes no difference where). If you don't have a CONFIG.SYS file, use your editor to create one with that line in it (nothing else is necessary as far as WithStyle is concerned) and place it on the disk partition you boot from. If stray bracket and other characters appear on the screen when you start WithStyle, ANSI.SYS isn't properly installed. Now, copy the two files WSTY.COM and WSTY.VOL from the distribution diskette to your choice of DOS directory. Starting WithStyle ------------------ You start WithStyle by prefixing to the DOS directory containing the program and typing WSTY at the DOS prompt. WithStyle makes effective use of color, if you have it available. Make sure that DOS knows that you have color; if you bring up WithStyle and you get a monochrome display, exit WithStyle and type the DOS command MODE CO80 Conversely, if you have a monochrome monitor and the WithStyle display appears strange when you start the program, assure that DOS knows that you have a monochrome monitor by typing the DOS command MODE BW80 Note that normally the MODE command won't be necessary, as DOS will be aware of which display you have by default. However, if you find that you must type the MODE command for WithStyle to display properly, you might want to create a batch file that will automatically execute the MODE command before starting WithStyle. Using WithStyle --------------- WithStyle is structured in the form of a series of hierarchial menus, pick lists, and dialogue boxes. Two of the menu selections on the first menu you see (the "level 1" menu) are "Help" and "Overview". "Help" tells you how to get around in WithStyle. If you've used your PC for other applications, much of the information in "Help" (like how to use the various keys on the PC keyboard) will be familiar to you. "Overview" presents a detailed description of what you can do using WithStyle and how to do it. As we said, WithStyle was designed to be easy to use, so feel free to explore on your own, if you prefer (but if you do that, we recommend that you use a "scratch" style sheet!). Both "Help" and "Overview" are indexed to make it easy for you to find a particular topic (the initial screens of both tell you how to use the index). Also, typing the help key "?" at most points in WithStyle will give you context sensitive help, telling what you're supposed to do at that particular point in the program. The introductory version of WithStyle you downloaded is limited to style sheets with no more than five tags. You may find this version adequate for your needs. However, we hope that you will find WithStyle sufficiently useful that you'll be motivated to purchase the full version of the software for only $79.95. Call our order number below. Feel free to pass along the introductory version of WithStyle to your friends. We ask, however, that you include all the files you received, unmodified, when you give the introductory WithStyle to someone else. Enjoy WithStyle, and let us have your comments!
