Dear Alumni:

As the new millennium begins, the University of Detroit Mercy enters this period with great expectations for the future of the University and its students (past and present), as well as for the city of Detroit.

During the first few years of the new millennium, the University will maintain a celebratory spirit. Throughout 2001, the University has been an active participant in the Detroit 300 anniversary celebration. Designated a Heritage Organization (for institutions over 50 years old), the University has a proud tradition as the oldest Catholic institution of higher education in Detroit.

The University will continue to celebrate its heritage during the 2001-2002 school year as alumni recognize the 60th anniversary of the founding of Mercy College of Detroit. This celebration leads into the 125th anniversary of the University of Detroit heritage in 2002-2003.

As the University recognizes these important milestones in its history, it is important to note that its mission and traditions remain true to their foundation by the Universitys sponsors, the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) and the Sisters of Mercy Detroit Regional Community.

Each of you has a special place in the Universitys history. I hope you enjoy reflecting on University highlights listed in this directory. I also hope you will continue to be an active participant in the University today by attending alumni events, visiting the campuses or rooting for our sports teams.

Thank you for your ongoing support and loyalty to your Alma Mater.

Sincerely,

Maureen A. Fay, O.P., Ph.D. (LA'66)
