Meridian Mail Service
A third way to reach out and touch someone in Meridian 59 is
by sending them mail. This works very much like e-mail you might have encountered
in any other universe. You can send mail to anyone who has an account on
the same server as you.
To enter Meridian Mail, type Mail on text line and press Enter;
or click the Mail icon on icon bar (it's the last icon on the right). Either
of these commands brings up the Read Mail window, from which you can read,
compose, and send mail:
Incoming Mail List -- A complete summary of the mail you've received.
To read a piece of mail, place the cursor on one of the listed items, and
click on it.
Options Buttons -- Click one of these buttons to start a new
message, update the incoming mail list, or delete a message from the list:
- Write -- Click this button to start a new mail message. Type
your message in the window that appears. When you're done, click OK
to send it, or Cancel to leave the window without sending the message.
- Reply -- To write a response to one of the messages on the list:
- Highlight one of the existing messages on the list above, then click
the Reply button.
- Type your response in the notepad window provided. The address of the
original author is automatically included.
- Click OK to send the message. To leave the Reply window without
mailing your message, click Cancel.
- Reply to All -- When several people are part of a conversational
thread, use Reply to All to send your response to everyone who received
the original message. Here's how:
- Highlight the original message, and click the Reply to All button.
- Type your response in the window provided. The addresses for all the
recipients of the original message are automatically included in the header.
- Click OK to send your message via Meridian Mail. To leave the
Reply to All window without sending a message, click Cancel.
- Rescan -- Sometimes, while you're reading a long list of messages,
new messages will arrive in your mailbox. You may want to click Rescan
periodically to update the message list, ensuring that the news you're
seeing is the freshest available.
- Delete -- To permanently remove a message from your mail list,
highlight the message in the mail list, and click the Delete button.
- Close -- Click this button to leave the Mail area and resume
your regularly scheduled life.
Once you've read a piece of Meridian mail, it's saved on the hard disk
of the computer you opened it on. If you commonly use two or more different
computers to access Meridian 59, remember that you will not be able to
re-read mail received on one computer when you're using another computer.
