DT v6.1 Web-on-CD Pitfalls

There are problems you may encounter using the DT CD set.
We outline below common ones and their workarounds which may prove of value to you.

IF you want to perform a download you MUST understand what content lives on which CD so you can perform file and/or directory downloads correctly. The v6.1 DT content spans 3 CDs. See the the Roadmap for what lives on which CD.
When you want to download any files/subdirectories via the "[Generate]" buttons at the bottom of any directory (index.html) file listing, you must first ensure the CD currently loaded is the one from which you want to download your selected materials. To do this,
- Click on any link to a file --not a subdirectory-- indicated as existing in your current directory (OTHER than a link to the "index.html" file itself).
  - IF you are able to directly access that file you are done and are ready to download.
  - ELSE you will be prompted to Eject the current CD and load the one specified in the dtCDmgr window -- the desired CD MUST be loaded before you can download from it.
Sequence to EJECT-and-swap currently loaded CD
If you need to Eject-and-swap the currently loaded CD, here's the sequence to follow:
1. press LEFTMOUSE on the CD listed in the body of the dtCDmgr window (to select it)
2. press the "Eject" button (second from left at bottom of window)
  NOTE: If the eject fails you will have to do the following:
  - In a shell window, become super user ("su -")
  - Run the command "umount -k <device>", where <device> is the drive you want to eject (e.g. execute "umount -k /CDROM" to free up the CDROM drive device). Be aware: this will kill any processes using this device. As long as this is only the DT, you'll be OK.
  - After running umount, repeat step 2 (the single-line) above, and continue.
3. replace the CD with the one for which you are being prompted
4. make sure the same CD device is selected (press LEFTMOUSE if necessary)
5. in the "Edit" pull-down menu, choose the "Refresh" menu item
6. press the "Done" button (button at bottom right-corner of window).
Use of Cancel button in dtCDmgr
dtCDmgr is the utility to add or remove CDROM drives, as well as to recognize or eject individual CDs. If you press the Cancel button to abnormally terminate the dtCDmgr utility, then its record of the currently mounted CDs may be wrong. If this happens, you may get in an endless dtCDmgr loop or netscape may fail to see CDs which are actually present. This bug will be fixed in a subsequent release.
One workaround is to always supply the needed CD and thus exit using the Done button instead of the Cancel button. Another workaround is to quit out of the viewDT process and start over.
v6.1 does NOT support multiple users simultaneously running viewDT on the same machine
At the present time, after user #1 starts viewDT on a given machine, no other user on that machine will be able to run their own viewDT session until user #1 has first terminated their session.
Going [Back] in Search sometimes produces "Missing Post reply data"
A developer has seen this on https://www.sgi.com/toolbox/ when trying to step [Back] into the "DT Search Results" page from a results link. So far from our vantage point, we have not been able to see the same behavior on the DT commerce server but it is occasionally happening now in the testing of this v6.1 CD-set: when one follows a link on the DT Search Results page, and then hits the [Back] button to step back to the list of results links, the http server serves a page titled "Missing Post reply data" stating:
Data Missing
This document resulted from a POST operation and has expired from the cache. If you wish you can repost the form data to recreate the document by pressing the reload button.
We don't know what is causing this so, for the present time you'll have to press the [Reload] button which forces the search to be re-run. -- IF anyone figures out what's happening here, pleeeeze let the janitor know so he can "share the wealth".
How to "RESET" your working environment IF you abnormally abort viewDT
If for any reason you abnormally abort viewDT, say by doing a CTRL-C in the shell window where you invoked /CDROM/bin/viewDT, you will need to perform the following steps to ensure everything is "cleaned up" before running /CDROM/bin/viewDT again:
- /bin/rm /tmp/.userhome_*
- /bin/rm /tmp/.cdlocation_*
- /bin/rm -rf ~/.www_6.1
- if it is still running, you must manually terminate the DT httpd server program.
  to do so, run
  and, if it is still running as in the following:
