SAN MATEO, Calif., September 27, 1996 --- Electronics for Imaging, Inc. (NASDAQ:EFII), the pioneer and leading supplier of products that enable digital color copiers to become high-speed, high-quality, networked color printers, today announced that it has entered into an agreement with DK & A, Inc., a leading supplier of digital prepress solutions to the publishing and printing industries.
Under the terms of the agreement, DK & A has licensed its imposition software to EFI for bundling with the Fiery XJ Color Server product line. The new custom imposition software, called the Fiery XJ Booklet Maker™, enables users to easily create Fiery-printed color booklets. By automatically reordering pages on printed sheets, the software makes it simple to create booklets that read in the correct order when folded and stapled at the document spine.
"The on-demand printing market has been lacking an integrated solution for easy imposition and booklet finishing," said Dan Avida, president and CEO of Electronics for Imaging. "With the introduction of Fiery XJ Booklet Maker, EFI has fulfilled that market need. We are very pleased about working with DK & A, a technology innovator in imposition software, to provide this important solution to Fiery users."
"We believe that this partnership is a perfect fit for the two companies," said David King, president and CEO of DK & A. "The collaboration validates the importance of imposition technology and DK & A's leadership position in that segment of the prepress market."
Fiery XJ Booklet Maker is an XTension to QuarkXPress and is compatible with both Macintosh and Windows platforms. The new software works seamlessly with QuarkXPress, automating and streamlining the imposition process. Users can bypass the time-consuming process of manually stripping pages by imposing printer flats from within QuarkXPress, thereby minimizing prepress expense. Fiery XJ Booklet Maker supports the preview of imposed documents, printing of n-up (2,4, 8 and trifold documents), compensation for creeps, provision for gap sizes, printing of cut, fold and trim marks, and selection of binding options.
As announced on September 11, 1996, the first EFI product to include the Fiery XJ Booklet Maker is the Fiery XJ+500 for the Xerox DocuColor 40. Fiery XJ Booklet Maker is expected to ship with future releases of other members of the Fiery product line.
EFI's products are distributed by the company's blue-chip OEM partners---Canon, Digital Equipment Corporation, IBM, Eastman Kodak, Minolta, Océ, Ricoh and Xerox. Fiery Color Servers and Fiery Driven color printers are installed worldwide in leading corporations, advertising agencies, graphic design studios and print-for-pay businesses. Founded in 1989 and headquartered in San Mateo, Calif., the company employs approximately 300 people and has 22 worldwide sales offices. Its stock is traded on the NASDAQ national market system under the symbol EFII.
