EFI to Integrate PowerPage PCL 5C Interpreter into Fiery XJe Controller

SAN MATEO, Calif. --- October 14, 1996 --- Electronics for Imaging, Inc. (NASDAQ:EFII), a pioneer and leading supplier of technologies for high quality color printing over computer networks, and Pipeline, an international software developer specializing in page description languages and custom printer drivers, today announced a licensing agreement under which EFI will license Pipeline's PowerPage PCL 5C interpreter and Windows 3.1, Windows 95 and Windows NT drivers. EFI will integrate the interpreter and drivers into its Fiery® XJe™ embedded controllers used in Fiery Driven™ desktop color laser printers.

PowerPage PCL 5C is a fully compatible implementation of Hewlett Packard's PCL 5C page description language, which is widely used in Windows computing environments. PowerPage PCL 5C incorporates continuous tone color printing and offers a selectable resolution capability enabling it to support engines rated at any designated resolution.

EFI's Fiery XJe controllers bring new levels of print quality and performance to the desktop color laser printer market. Featuring many of the innovations and technologies found in EFI's market-leading Fiery XJ™ Color Servers™ for digital color copiers, Fiery Driven printers are currently available from Canon, Inc., Digital Equipment Corporation and IBM.
