Gardening with
Wildlife in Mind

Getting Started

Close down all applications.
Insert the CD into your CD-ROM drive.
The program should start automatically unless autorun is switched off.
If the application doesn’t start, click Start, then Run, then type in D:\Setup.exe (where D is the letter of your CD drive - substitute if different) then click OK.

Please note that the visual area of the application is generated using your current version of Microsoft Internet Explorer as an embedded object and any security restrictions you (or Microsoft) apply to IE, may also effect this application.

DOESN'T FIT THE SCREEN?

There's been just one repeating helpdesk inquiry from users of Version 1.0 of this product.

Natural England Gardening with Wildlife in Mind CD-ROM requires a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 or greater to run properly. Don't be put off by the numbers. If your screen is too small for the application, it is probably running at 800 x 600 and all it requires is an adjustment to the next size up. This can be done very easily.

From your desktop
Right mouse click anywhere on the desktop not occupied by an icon, then choose Properties

or from the start bar
Choose Settings, then Control Panel, then Display

or from Windows Explorer
Click My Computer, then double click Control Panel then Display

When the Display dialog opens
Choose the Settings tab and adjust the screen area by moving the pointer to the right then click Apply.

Note: if the screen area adjustment does not offer a higher setting than 800 x 600, the graphics card probably does not support it. This is the case with some fairly old computers. In these circumstances, this application will not run properly on this computer.

Missing or non-functioning navigation scroll bar (under the image)

In versions prior to version 4.0, the missing scroll bar is a known problem that affects a very small number of users. Your system is missing an activeX component that is common to a number of applications including Microsoft Word. There is a simple solution.
Please go to:
http://www.plantpress.com/scrollbar/
and carefully follow the on screen instructions. If a dialog box comes up asking if it is safe to install a component from Microsoft, click ‘Yes’ or ‘OK’ or the missing component won’t be installed.

In version 4.0 of the product the ActiveX component has been replaced with pure JavaScript, so in order to function correctly, javascript must be enabled in Internet Explorer.

Won't run under XP with limited access account

In common with other software, Natural England Gardening with Wildlife in Mind will run satisfactorily under Windows XP with a user account that has 'administrator privileges'. But, Windows XP will block the application if you attempt to run it from a user account with limited access privileges.
