The Center of Excellence in Space Data and Information Sciences (CESDIS) was developed jointly by NASA, Universities Space Research Association (USRA) and the University of Maryland in 1988 to focus on the design of advanced computing techniques and data systems to support NASA space and Earth science research programs. CESDIS operates from NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland.
