Accomplishments

  • Inspiring Students. Developed Sharing NASA projects that use the Internet to connect students in an exciting, interactive way with NASA scientists and engineers.

  • Instruction Materials. Produced videotapes (Global Quest: The Internet in the Classroom, Connecting to the Future, and Global Quest II: Teaching with the Internet).

  • Virtual Conference. In July 1996 the Ames K-12 team partnered with Passport to Knowledge to use email, Web Graphics, WebChat, RealAudio, CU-SeeMe, and MBONE, enabling individuals to "virtually" attend a teacher training conference held in Washington, DC.
  • Information Delivered. Quest, the Ames K-12 server, is linked to by over 8000 sites as a valuable education resource, received over 667,000 hits from over 47,000 unique IP addresses in July 1996, and has received numerous awards and recognitions.

  • Conference Outreach. Participated in over a dozen conferences over the last 18 months.p

    Significance

  • This project inspires students to undertake technology careers and contributes to creation of public awareness and support for NASA activities.

    Plans

  • In FY97 the Ames K-12 team will continue its Sharing NASA efforts with "Live From Mars" (a collaboration with PTK, NSF and PBS) and "Shuttle/MIR Online Research Experience", and they will host a "NetDay and Beyond" Virtual Conference.
