IITA 1996 Annual Report
Internet Library Information Access Device (ILIAD)

http://www.jsc.nasa.gov/stb/iliad.html

Approach

ILIAD is a smart email system that provides Web access to teachers who have minimal computing resources.

This system serves all teachers without requiring special hardware or software. Results can be viewed on-demand, optimizing teacher time.

Accomplishments

The ILIAD system is in operation on the Texas Education Network (TENET), serving 50, 000 teachers in 1, 056 school districts.

Plans

The Johnson team will develop resource software for teachers to provide access to and management of Internet resources for classroom use. The software agents will exploit caching and database technology to increase bandwidth and provide resource management capabilities for teachers. The minimal hardware and Internet service requirements for a school are one server (MAC) and a single-user Internet account (PPP).
