Objective To develop a fun, innovative, and engaging Web site about the Earth and Space sciences. Approach ![]() Make connections between the Earth and space sciences and the human experience by providing information on history, art, and mythology. Accomplishments Version 1 of Windows to the Universe opened on March 1, 1996. Since the site was first established, it has received 378,360 hits form 7,758 unique IP addresses. A search tool is available for teachers that allows them to specify standards-based keywords and find the relevant content within the site. | Significance Windows is unique in linking to examples from mythology and art to increase people's interest in science. The system is also unique in its ability to tailor the presentation of material to either beginner, intermediate or advanced levels of description. Plans Version 2 of Windows to the Universe opens on October 1, 1996. It includes over 2500 web pages, 1000 images, and 80 movies or animations. A CD will be available for Version 2 at cost for users who wish to speed up image download time. This agreement expires in Fiscal Year 1997.
