DAO-NAS Partnership Steps Up With Two More SGI Systems

NASA's Data Assimilation Office (DAO), in collaboration with NAS
Facility staff and Silicon Graphics Inc. (SGI), is migrating the
Goddard Earth Observing System Data Assimilation System (GEOS-DAS)
software from its current home at Goddard Space Flight Center to a
permanent home at the NAS Facility. The DAO's function within NASA is to
advance the state of the art in data assimilation--the process of
turning observations into a model--and to provide assimilated datasets for
the Mission to Planet Earth enterprise. To run the climate model and
the assimilation algorithm, the office requires high-speed computing
resources like those used at the NAS Facility.
