Day 006 - 05 Jul 94 - Page 18
1 employment of young people seriously?
A. Yes.
2
Q. Following those offences in 1982 and 1984, would future
3 conditions for employment of young people have been
especially taken seriously, bearing in mind those
4 convictions?
A. I am sorry would what have been?
5
Q. Following those convictions, would you say that the
6 company would have especially been cared for?
A. We would have been as careful as we are everywhere. We
7 may very well have done some extra checking to make sure
the system being followed, the system being used, was
8 followed by people but, as I said earlier, we are dealing
with human beings here who are are not perfect. Things do
9 go wrong. We do make mistakes. The auditing procedures
followed by our human resources staff, our operations
10 people, are designed to find where errors take place and
action takes place, having found an error, to fix it, to
11 keep it from happening again.
12 Q. How do you know about errors that have taken place?
A. I do not personally.
13
Q. How does, say, Andrew Taylor know about errors taking
14 place?
A. I would gather through human resources auditing
15 process.
16 Q. They have national monitoring of transgressions?
A. I do not know whether they do or not. There is a
17 system of supervisors, human resources people, field
consultants, who regular monitor the stores. They report
18 what they find. If they find something wrong, they chart
a course of action to fix it.
19
Q. Do they have to look to find something wrong or do they
20 get some kind of systematic reports from regions to the
national officer?
21 A. If a supervisor goes to a restaurant to conduct an
audit, a full field examination, he just shows up on the
22 door and finds what he finds.
23 Q. So is it left to chance then?
A. Left to chance -- it is done ramdonly, unannounced. It
24 is the best way to find out what the real world is all
about.
25
Q. So are you aware of any national statistics?
26 A. No.
27 Q. On infringement?
A. No.
28
Q. By stores that are discovered- so when these people make
29 their full field audits for the local restaurants
randomly?
30 A. Yes.
