Day 013 - 19 Jul 94 - Page 02
1 Tuesday, 19th July 1994.
2 Mr. Horwitz, recalled.
Cross-Examined by the defendants, continued.
3
MR. MORRIS: I have the letter I referred to yesterday, the
4 Robert Beaver's letter.
5 MR. JUSTICE BELL: Is that in relation to this witness?
6 MR. MORRIS: No.
7 MR. JUSTICE BELL: Let us deal with anything that does not
relate to his evidence after.
8
MS. STEEL: Prior to the publication of "Food - the Facts",
9 did McDonald's produce any leaflet, booklet, pamphlet or
whatever which gave full ingredient listings?
10 A. There was the Hazleton report which was a full
nutrition and, as I recall, an ingredient analysis of the
11 total product and that was available from headquarters
upon request.
12
Q. Right.
13 A. There maybe other brochures, I just do not recall.
14 Q. Perhaps we should look at the Hazleton food analysis. It
is the pink volume VI, tab 4C.
15
MR. JUSTICE BELL: I seem to have an awful lot of bundles
16 spread out on the table.
17 MR. RAMPTON: I do not know what those are doing. I know
Mrs. Brinley-Codd and your Lordship's clerk were
18 discussing those bundles earlier. What those documents
are are the scientific reference served on Friday
19 evening. Those are the pale green ones. There are some
new documents from Mr. Mallinson, a fourth supplementary
20 list of documents, which is also a blue file.
21 MS. STEEL: Have you found it?
A. Yes.
22
Q. 4C?
23 A. I am there.
24 Q. Do you want to have a look through that and tell me
whether you can see the ingredients listed anywhere?
25 A. No, I do not see the ingredients here. My
recollection, though, is that there are documents which
26 were available listing the ingredients and, if my
recollection is faulty on that, I clearly am aware that
27 someone could call in to our hot line, to the consumer
affairs group, and ask about ingredients and be given it
28 over the telephone.
29 Q. Do you know the name of any document which would have the
ingredients listings in it?
30 A. We had some brochures and pamphlets. I just do not
recall.
