       A. No.

  Q. But were you responsible for the development?
       A. Operations development of new products, new ways of
operating a restaurant, new equipment and changes, anything
that was changing in McDonald's. That is really what I was
responsible for, heading up various teams on new ideas.

  Q. So, in fact, it would have been a relevant circumstance for
you, even if you were not personally in a responsible
position, in terms of monitoring equipment and procedures
to see if things could be improved?
       A. Yes, I think you could make that association but -----

  Q. It is now, is it not, it is now in your area of
responsibility in terms of health and safety of employees?
       A. Most definitely now with my new responsibility of
health and safety, reporting directly to me is my
       responsibility.

  Q. Would you say that was the most serious incident in terms
of implication for employees' safety that there has been in
       McDonald's in this country?
       A. You said is that the most serious implication?

  Q. Is that the most serious single incident that has ever
happened, as far as you know of, in McDonald's in this
       country?
       A. To my knowledge, I believe there has only been one
       death of anyone in McDonald's.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Is it the only fatality?
       A. Yes, as far as I am concerned, I am sure it is.

MR. MORRIS: So you would say that was the single most serious
       individual incident?
       A. Well, yes, a death is more serious than any other
accident that has happened in McDonald's.

  Q. You are now presently in charge of the over-view of health
       and safety of employees?
       A. That is correct.

  Q. So you would have to know something about that incident if
it was not to be repeated, would you not?
       A. I know the broad history of that accident, yes.

  Q. So you do not know of any fault of McDonald's for that most
serious accident in the company's history?
       A. I do not. As I say, I just know from conversations
with Jill and just a general overview of health and safety
in the past, some of the circumstances that were there. I
just say again that Jill was the person who has, I think,
managed that situation and understood all aspects around
that. She needed to know it. At that time it just was not
       an issue that I managed.

  Q. Did this incident crop up in conversations sometimes or in
reports or in any meetings as something to be taken
seriously or to remember or to note certain circumstances
