Day 101 - 10 Mar 95 - Page 07

one of the people that would be involved normally in an
       investigation of any other allegations.

  Q. Why not the Preston one? Why are you involved in all the
other ones but not the Preston one?
       A. Well, Preston happened several years ago and I was not
in a position then where I would have been involved in it.

  Q. What was your position in 1991 then?
       A. My official title, I think, would have been a Quality
Assurance Assistant in those days. I was in the Quality
Assurance Department but not in the position I am in now.

  Q. When did you reach the position you are in now?
       A. My current position was about a year ago.

  Q. So you did not attend any the meetings with the Public
Health Laboratory Service over this at all?
       A. No.

  Q. Do you know who did?
       A. Do I know who did from our department? Yes, I have
       already told you that.

  Q. Barbara Crawford?
       A. Yes, correct.

  Q. Was it just Barbara Crawford?
       A. Barbara Crawford from my department.

  Q. And Jill Barnes?
       A. Jill Barnes is not in my department.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: "Jill Barnes too, I think".

MS. STEEL: So when you say the evidence is not conclusive for
the Preston outbreak, you do not actually know, do you?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Look, I think we really have, so far as he
has concerned, gone far enough on Preston. If, at the end
of the day, you want to say it is funny how no-one seems to
know anything about Preston, do so. But you are asking,
perhaps, with the words changed slightly a question which
was asked more than once yesterday, and already a number of
       times this morning.

MR. MORRIS: I just think that was the last question on the
       subject. That was the conclusion.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Fair enough, but I do not know it is going to
be the last question on the subject.

MR. MORRIS: Is it all right if we ask that one?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: The answer is, no. He has said it already.

MS. STEEL: In your investigations into the under-cooking of
beef patties, have you found that certain areas of the
grill are not as high as other areas?
