Day 110 - 29 Mar 95 - Page 10

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is addressed to Mr. Morris. I see -- you
mean the first sheet is a letter, as it were, and then
followed by a four page -----

MR. RAMPTON: Yes, there are two, I took them to be two
different statements, because the earlier one which is a
six pages generalised polemic, if I can call it that, was
made in July, 1993. It is dated at the bottom of each
page. Then there is a supplementary -- no doubt arising
out of remarks I once made to your Lordship to the effect
that his evidence did not appear to have anything whatever
to do with McDonald's -- which says merely: "I witnessed
at livestock markets culled dairy cows being auctioned and
brought in for slaughter for McDonald's burgers". We did
nothing more than that.

MR. MORRIS: Can I say, I have the complete statement that you
asked for yesterday. You had missing page 2.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MR. MORRIS: Would you like the complete statement?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I would like a complete statement merely
because I can then check that I am not missing any other
pages apart from page 2. It need not be stapled. I will
do that myself so I get them at the right level,
Mr. Morris.

MR. RAMPTON: I do not know if Mr. Morris is intending to
interject something?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No, I think he wanted to give me the full
statement. I will ask him if he or Ms. Steel want to say
anything in a moment. Let me just read the second page.
Yes?

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, I had made the observation, I believe, to
your Lordship at one stage during this case that the six
page generalised polemic, as I call it, Mr. Long had
originally wrote -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I have just taken page 2, that is all.

MR. RAMPTON: I see that he has a PhD, so it is probably right
to call him Dr. Long. I made the observation that
statement contained nothing whatever to connect the
Plaintiffs, either of these Plaintiffs, with any of the
ills against which Dr. Long inveighs in his statement.
Then came later on 1st November, the short, what I have
called supplementary statement, letter, whatever it is,
which contains the sentence: "I witnessed at livestock
markets culled dairy cows being auctioned and bought to be
slaughtered for McDonald's burgers". No further detail is
given either of the markets or, as it were, of the
connection between those animals and McDonald's food.

If it were right that he was in a position to prove that
connection and was then going to give evidence about the
