Day 155 - 14 Jul 95 - Page 06
Q. In what way?
A. I was made Restaurant Manager of the Year. I had Store
of the Year. Both of these were awarded in the same year
which is very, very rare.

Q. Saving your blushes, were you successful as a Supervisor?
A. Yes, a few years later I was voted Supervisor of the
Year nationally.

MR. MORRIS: Can I ask a question? Can we clarify which year we
are talking about?

MR. RAMPTON: For what?

MR. MORRIS: For Store of the Year, Manager of the Year.

MR. RAMPTON: Yes. What was the year in which Seven Sisters was
recognised as Store of the Year or Restaurant of the Year
and you were recognised as Manager of the Year? Was it the
same year?
A. It would have been for the year 1987.

Q. In any one year, how many stores in a region get that
accolade, that recognition?
A. Nationally, it would be 10 restaurants.

Q. 10 restaurants and 10 Managers?
A. Yes.

Q. What about Supervisors, how many in a year?
A. Supervisors I think nationally it was eight.

Q. So you were one of eight. Do you remember which year that
was?
A. That probably would have been 89, I think, or maybe 90.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Keep your voice up, Mr. Giardina. I do not
want you to strain because I can hear you, but it is easier
if you keep your voice up a little.

MR. RAMPTON: You are now a General Manager, Mr. Giardina?
A. That is correct.

Q. Tell us, because we do not know that we have had any direct
evidence about this, not detailed anyway, how does the
position of a General Manager differ from the position of
ordinary Restaurant Manager?
A. As a Restaurant Manager, you are given direction and
advice from your Area Manager. My position of being an
Area Manager for so many years, in a way, it was a
promotion to General Manager where you are solely
responsible for that one restaurant, not four any more.
You are sort of a Restaurant Manager and Supervisor all
rolled into one. You are left to basically run your
restaurant as if it was your own business, and the reward
is a little bit like profit sharing.

Q. Do you get -- I am coming back to the hierarchy in a moment
-- an ordinary salary from the Company?
A. I still receive the basic salary of the Area Manager.
