1 Then I went on to Braslo in Brazil. I said to him:
2 "Braslo in Brazil, you said, did not export to
3 McDonald's?" "I said Braslo -- or, at least, a part of
4 Braslo that is dedicated to McDonald's" -----

8 MR. MORRIS: Sorry, yes. Answer: "I said Braslo -- or, at
9 least, a part of Braslo that is dedicated to McDonald's --
10 as far as I remember, they do not export finished products,
11 McDonald's products, to any other country, with the
12 possible exception other than a product, an evaluation of
13 their product for comparison reasons. They might export a
14 box just to look at their products, and they might have
15 exported to Argentina for a small period of time, when
16 I remember we had a shortage".

18 "When was that?" "I think it was roughly a year and a half
19 or two years ago". So that would have been sometime around
20 1992/1993 to Argentina. I said: "They do deboning and
21 processing there; is that correct?" He said: "That is
22 correct." I said: "So they may be exporting non-finished
23 products such as frozen, deboned meat?" Answer: "That is
24 correct."

26 Then we went on about McDonald's UK importing Brazilian
27 beef. Actually, yes, on page 28 he said he does not know
28 about the McDonald's UK import of Brazilian beef; never
29 heard about it. I said: "Is it possible that they
30 actually export to some suppliers of McDonald's in other
31 countries?" That is Braslo. He said: "It is possible.
32 Yes, it is possible."

34 Question: "I mean, do you know whether they do or they do
35 not, or can you think of any countries where they do export
36 to suppliers?" Answer: "Argentina, they have exported
37 finished products to McDonald's directly, finished
38 products."

42 MR. MORRIS: "But non-finished products?" I asked. Answer:
43 "I know they have exported -- I do not know for
44 McDonald's, but they export to the EC, some of the
45 specially primary cuts that we do not use, so that they
46 have that potential of exporting. I will say that any of
47 the meat from Braslo comes from the same area. So if they
48 export anything, even if it is not for McDonald's, it will
49 follow the same policy about the rainforests." That is
50 open to challenge, of course.

52 "Can you name any countries where you know that they have
53 actually supplied deboned or frozen -- not final products,
54 finished products -- meat to a supplier that supplies
55 McDonald's?" Answer: "I think the only one I have heard
56 is Switzerland". Question: "Do you know what year that
57 was, or which years, or is that ongoing?" Answer: "I think
58 it was during a visit that I had last year", which,
59 presumably, would have been around 1993.
