Day 191 - 24 Nov 95 - Page 03

  Q.   You worked for McDonald's for a period of about six months;
       is that right?
       A. Yes, about six months, seven months at the most.

  Q. Right. Which store was that at?
       A. Mainly at Sidcup.

  Q. Right. I will not ask you about the other places. That
was just on odd occasions, was it?
       A. Yes.

  Q. OK. I will just read through the statement and get you to
verify that it is the statement you made.

"My name is Keith John Baker. I worked for McDonald's
Golden Arches Restaurants Limited from approximately
24th November 1984 to mid May 1985. During that time, both
myself and the other crew members were constantly harassed
about the speed of their work not being fast enough.
I worked the 'CLOSE' shift during my time at Sidcup
McDonald's, and most of the time there were two or three
under-18s working after 10.00 p.m., one of which was
Miss Sarah Dunn. Please find enclosed wage slips as
       proof."

If I could just say, Mr. Baker did send them to us, but we
appear to have lost them somehow.

MR. RAMPTON: Yes. My Lord, I have not got them either.

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: No.

MR. RAMPTON: I do not know where on earth they have gone.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I am going to put "lost in post".

MS. STEEL: (To the witness): Can I just ask, was it always
the close shift that you worked, or did you work other
shifts as well, or was it mainly the close?
       A. It was 90 per cent the close.

  Q. Right. "One time, just before Christmas 1984, the whole
crew was clocked out at 12.30 a.m. by the first Assistant
Manager, Cassy -- sorry, no second name known. After some
argument, at 2.30 a.m. approximately, the clock cards were
       altered by hand.

"Towards the end of April 1985, there was an accident in
the grill area involving a crew member by the name of
Alison Farrington who slipped on a wet floor and, as she
fell, her arm, her right arm, was badly burned on a hot
grill. I took her into the washing up area and filled a
sink with cold water and ice cubes and placed her arm in
it. The management moaned about my not working, and only
after much badgering an ambulance was called by another
crew member from a phone box in Sidcup High Street."

Was there a phone in the store at that time?
       A. Yes, in the Manager's office.
