Day 256 - 04 Jun 96 - Page 03
Professor Campbell, as far as I am aware, has put his views
in the two letters which I have.

MR. MORRIS: Yes. What we are going to do is ----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I will put his CV ahead of his first letter.

MR. MORRIS: The thing from this morning says: "Some snippets of
information from the China Project" -- a summary.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I will read that now.

MR. MORRIS: Because that will save us having to read out large
chunks of the actual ---

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I certainly do not want you to do that.

MR. MORRIS: -- survey report that was disclosed a couple of
years ago. This is a more concise summary of it.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What course are you proposing to take with
the snippets?

MR. MORRIS: I was going to read out the snippets, except for
there were two or three paragraphs that were not relevant;
and that was basically that.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Were you proposing to read the two letters
I have referred to?

MR. MORRIS: Oh, yes; and, obviously, refer to the CV as well.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I suggest, if you are going to do that, if
that was your proposal anyway, I will follow the snippets
as you go through them -- unless you have any objection to
that course?

MR. RAMPTON: No, my Lord. I rely on those things.

MR. MORRIS: I am just carrying on sorting out my papers here.
Let us see how we go if we call Professor Campbell.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. Would you like to come into the witness
box, please?

PROFESSOR T. COLIN CAMPBELL, affirmed
Examined by the Defendants

MR. JUSTICE BELL: If you want to sit down at any stage, pull
the chair forward right into the witness box,
Professor Campbell, and keep your voice up. The microphone
is for taping purposes; it does not magnify your voice.

THE WITNESS: OK.

MR. MORRIS: There is some water for you, if you need a glass of
water.

THE WITNESS: Thank you.
