     8        and they also, the last line, Golan and Harris also helps
     9        to administer the ronald mcdonald House in one of
    10        McDonald's children's charities programmes for the
    11        company."  You have a public relations department here; do
    12        you have a similar body that has that role in the UK as
    13        like an agency?
    14        A.  I am not sure, I am not aware of the technicalities of
    15        how that is handled but it is not handled by an external
    16        agency, it is handled, I think, in-house but I do not have
    17        any detailed knowledge of who or how that operates in the
    18        UK company.

    20   Q.   Welbeck Golan and Harris who, we believe, are acting here
    21        on behalf of McDonald's, are they involved in public
    22        relations here?
    23        A.  Not in the UK, they have an agency responsibility for
    24        McDonald's in Europe, not for the UK market.  They are
    25        based in London but they work with our European office at
    26        Edgware road.

    28   MS. STEEL:   That would include the UK would it not?
    29        A.  No, it would not.  No, the UK has its own
    30        communications agency who, I believe, are a company called
    31        Scope.

    33   MR. MORRIS:  So Scope are involved with public relations?

    37   MR. MORRIS:  I am trying to clarify.

    39   MR. RAMPTON:  We have spent a very long time going absolutely
    40        nowhere.

    42   MR. MORRIS:  Do you call a long time two questions?

    44   MR. JUSTICE BELL:  But you know about Scope.  What he said, as
    45        I understand it, is whatever happens in the States the
    46        charitable functions are operated internally and not by
    47        external agents, so you can forget Scope or anyone else.

    50   MR. MORRIS:  Right.  If we move to page 643, please.  It says in 
    51        the upper half of that right-hand column, there is a 
    52        heading, 'Out of store marketing', which includes 
    53        'department coordination and execution of all store
    54        marketing programmes and any community relations work that
    55        needs to be done'.  Just to clarify that, is that what the
    56        store does in the community that it is in, out of store
    57        marketing?  Or is that something that is done on a national
    58        or regional level?
    59        A.  I do not have any detailed knowledge of how they
    60        organise it in the US.  In the UK market we have something
