Day 261 - 12 Jun 96 - Page 03

MS. STEEL: OK. (To the witness) You have made a note in your
notes that:

"This last part illustrates what I firmly believed to be
the present anti-McDonald's movement. While
London Greenpeace certainly initiated the idea...."

Incidentally, did you get any impression about when the
campaign had been initiated?
A. No, I did not know that.

Q. You were aware that it was some years before, though?
A. It was before my involvement, yes.

Q. "....and supplied the original drive for the
anti-McDonald's concept, now it has been taken over by
other groups such as the Hackney Solidarity Group, the
Haringey and Islington Direct Action movements, and most
certainly by the various Animal Rights groups throughout
the country. For example, the demonstration organised for
Dalston Junction, as related in my last report, has nothing
to do with London Greenpeace; neither are any of its
members expected to attend."

That is all correct, is it?
A. That was my impression at the time, yes.

Q. In actual fact, were you aware of Michelle Hooker attending
the pickets of the Dalston Junction McDonald's?
A. No, I was not.

Q. Then you go on to say that there were various groups
organising their own anti-McDonald's events?
A. Yes.

Q. That would be correct, would it?
A. That was my impression at the time, yes.

MR. MORRIS: The only reference to McDonald's in the above
paragraph, apart from the thing about Helen that has been
dealt with -- no, that was not about McDonald's, that was
about the Greenpeace fair -- the only mention about
McDonald's is about four lines from the bottom of the first
paragraph. It says:

"Paul Gravett stated that Hackney Solidarity Group had
printed 10,000 anti-McDonald's leaflets using last year's
artwork from London Greenpeace."

MR. RAMPTON: There are two references to McDonald's at the end
of the first paragraph.

MR. MORRIS: Yes. Right, OK. The 10,000 anti-McDonald's
leaflets, they were the usual versions, were they?
A. I do not know. It was commented that 10,000
anti-McDonald's leaflets had been incorrectly printed.
Which leaflet, I was unable to say.

Q. We are talking about the short version, the two-sided?
