Day 301 - 15 Nov 96 - Page 50
As regards our witnesses, every single one was independent
and had absolutely no commercial relationship -- or, in
fact, any other relationship, as far as I can remember --
with us, and they were free to speak as they saw the
truth. It would not matter if McDonald's called 100
witnesses to counter one of our witnesses, because, as far
as we can see, our witnesses had the ring of truth in them,
and they were coming for no other reason other than to help
the court for that purpose. I think almost none of them
were effectively challenged by Mr. Rampton in any kind of
-- none of them were effectively challenged, but a lot of
them were not challenged at all.

I say that because I am not going to be able to delve in
depth into the extensive evidence we have heard on this
issue on Monday and Tuesday; I am going to try to stick to
what I call the core witnesses, such as Mr. Pearson and
Mr. Beavers, things like that.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I think that is a sensible approach to take,
anyway. We will call it a day there, and we will resume at
10.30 on Monday morning.
