Why reduction?

Why reduction? Why not further expansion? I fail to understand the need to take everything away from everybody else. I also fail to understand why the answer doesnt lie ahead of us as opposed to the answers you supply which would take us backwards.

Reread my last line please, thats not what I said. I very clearly stated a need to keep an eye on the goal.
