: The most problematic contradiction of capitalism is: production for short term profit comes way before production for human need. What happens? a lot of useless things get produced, a lot of over-production occurs while there still exists 1.2 billion people or 23% of the world that live in absolute poverty.Absolutely right. Another thing that really frustrates me is the number of false markets and built in obselesence. You've all heard the one about the light bulb that could last forever which the light bulb companies don't want to see released onto the market. The same applies for the non-rechargeable battery charger and the water powered car. Capitalism IS guilty of supressing technology for profit.
And then there's the huge gulf between what society needs and what rich people want. Capitalism gives generously to the latter and couldn't give a monkey's about the former.
I'd like to see if anyone can defend Capitalism on any of these grounds. If it's already been done on the sight then please direct me.
The question is: How to redress the balance?
Answers would be appreciated... If there are any...
