: Dear McSpotlight,
: it is time to close down æCapitalism and AlternativesÆ.
: Of all the McSpotlight discussion groups, this would appear to be the most pointless, because discussing political theory is pointless. Why? If people are unhappy with the system, they should present alternatives.
If this is a democracy, people who discuss alternatives to the present system should have the power to make a change.
Can't do that, if you don't know what the alternatives are, or discuss them
: In Science, when someone puts forward a hypothesis, others discuss it; do experiments etc., and eventually it is proven valid or invalid.
The implementation of various political systems can be seen as an 'experiment'. For example, look at the results of Capatilism. Alienation and exploitation of the working classes, to benefit 'fat cats'.
The system eithor works, or it doesn't. You can tell by it's results.
: But discussing alternatives to Capitalism is like discussing alternatives to Gravity.
Capatilism is the only system in the world?
: Capitalism in practice is basically a meritocracy. The smartest/strongest/most creative usually come out on top, the rest usually fall by the wayside.
Are you assuming that everyone has the same oppertunities?
The same access to decent education, for example? (If you don't have the money, how DO you get a decent education?)
Assuming that they don't have other responsibilities that would hinder them, for example, looking after children or helpless/ sick/ elderly relatives?
And WHO decides who is the smartest? Most creative etc?
And how? Isn't it all confined to performance in the workplace?
: So stop wearing out the disk drives on the McSpotlight web server with all this aimless ranting and raving, and turn the discussion over to a subject thatÆs worth talking about.
Which would be...?
None.
