I would like to suggest that Communism perhaps may not work... However we have yet to see the formation of a real communist society in the world. It must therefore be argued that one must not therefore totally rule out the possibility of it's formation. What me need perhaps therefore in society is the formation of 'ironists' as coined by Richard Rorty. But in my own re-organisation of his theory, I would recomend that we hold two views in the terms of his ironic perspective, that is, one must hold to the ideas of Marx and yet hold a post-liberal view of the possibility that such a meta-narrative may have it's limits! In this way the possibility of a communist utopia may be accomplished without the harsh dogmatism, which has followed it in places such as Russia and China...
