I agree that apathy and ignorance are major obstacles to progressive social change. I am currently working to build the Greens Party in a mostly rural county in Michigan. Some people are showing an interest, but many just don't seem to care. This problem exists everywhere. The city of Ann Arbor has a progressive reputation, but unfortunately there are also a lot of greedy yuppie bastards there who only want their piece of the pie and do not really care about the less fortunate. What really bothers me is when these yuppie scum try to act like they are still true to the love and peace vibe of their sixties youth. I was born in 1964, but I am more true to the "sixties spirit" than a lot of those who actually took part in the sixties counterculture.

In the more rural areas, I feel that ignorance is more of a problem. I do not mean to belittle people when I say this. It just seems that many working class "redneck" types accept the system as it is, even though they are getting screwed by it! They wave their flags and vote Republicrat or Demublican, and then wonder why they can't do any better than jobs at 7-11 or McDonalds, and a trailer park lifestyle. If you try to explain this to them, they attack you for being a "commie pinko." The system has done a VERY good job of indoctrinating the public. I, however, refuse to give up! Someday, people will get a clue about what is really going on in the world.
