: I couldn't agree with Chomsky more. I find myself in the unenviable position of having to constantly define terms (Marxism, Leninism, communism, et al)whenever I try to have a political conversation because so many Americans have bought the Washington line and believe that the Soviet Union was an example of real communinsm.: If only Chomsky were required reading in high school civics classes.

...American society would have a hard time of it.As matter of fact it is having a hard time of it just because of the anti-intellectualism that runs rampant in the political culture.The "dumbing down" of America has been quite successful and all one has to do is go through some of the postings on this website. This is what happens when the educational system becomes a system of imposed ignorance.I grew up in that and I didn't get myself out the mainstream mindset for years until I went to prison. In my time at TDC I saw how people's thinking could be warped to the point where what they saw as freedom was the opposite.
I'm not talking about the ordinary prisoners so much as I'm referring to the personnel running the units I was in,the judicial system and the law enforcement community. They believe in slavery and so do a lot of other people in civilian life.The phrasings ar just cloaked in Newspeak
and they don't even realize it.All the while they rant patriotic slogans that would make Kim il-Sung proud.I wish they would wake up and smell the doggy doo before they go to some fast food joint to quell their sugar cravings.
All the anti-communist, anti-socialist jargon is so lame but at the same time acts as a label of convenience.To call someone a Communist
