Mike,
I refuse to add to the arguement about Hitler and Suddam. It's pointless. I will however point out how destructive meat consumption can be.
Many people are usually surprised that a country as big as Australia has a human population of only 16 million. What they fail to realise is that Australia is basically a desert will a very thin broken rim of useable land on the east coast and maybe a little in the west.
In Australia our society is based on western european traditions which tend to try to dominate nature and make it submit to our ideals. Unfortunately this includes herding and grazing cattle which requires vast tracts of productive soil which Australia is considerably short of.
As our population grows our people need houses and as the suburbs spread further and further out they take up valuable grazing land. This means that more and more bush land is being cleared to make way for both grazing and suburban sprawl. Meaning? That the habitats of native animals and valuable flora are being wiped out.
Do you suggest we just keep on going? If not then what sort of changes need to be made?
I realise that things maybe different in your part of the world but population growth is a world wide problem.
Let's not argue about hitler and Saddam. Let's get our brains together and find some answers.
