Looking much the same as it did during the revolution, this small village in the Sierra Maestra mountains is preparing for an incoming storm which, a few hours later, struck with full force bringing down power lines and with torrential rains.
The remote Sierra Maestra mountains were the stronghold of Fidel Castro, Che Guevara, and the rebel army during the Cuban Revolution in the 1950s. Not far from this village (which is just a small collection of huts) is a similar looking one, which was built by the rebels as their mountain hideout. But, unfortunately no photographs were allowed taken. It is here that a group of 250 rebels, taking advantage of the mountains' rugged terrain, successfully fought off an attack by 10,000 government soldiers.
