Years ago, I fell in love with a song - recorded by Morais Moreira - called Pπo e Poesia. Little did I know that one day I would meet the marvelous poet/person who wrote the lyrics that so touched me. Well, I did! This year in Fortaleza I was having dinner at a friend's home when in walks this good-looking, unassuming man...the legendary Fausto Nilo. Fausto recorded this CD to celebrate his 50th birhday and he says that to his surprise "it's selling really well"...Didn't I say he's modest?
For those of you out there who don't pay attention to the lyricist's name in Brazilian songs, besides Pπo e Poesia Fausto has written hundreds of songs with the likes of Fagner, Belchior, ManassΘs, Sueli Costa, Geraldo Azevedo, Roberto de Carvalho, Dominguinhos, and others. One of his greatest successes is Bloco do Prazer, recorded by Gal Costa. You must know this one, it is such a great carnaval tune! And Caetano Veloso sings Vida Boa in his upcoming CD, so let's all watch for that one.
