Zizi Possi: Valsa
Brasileira, Velas CD 11-V020. This wonderful singer from Sπo Paulo, who turned
her career around a few years ago with the beautiful CD Sobre todas as coisas, is
back with sensitive interpretations of Se queres saber, Valsa brasileira, Quem Θ
vocΩ and others. I had the pleasure to see and hear her in 1995 in Rio and will
never forget it.

Marisa Monte: Green, Blue,
Yellow, Rose and Charcoal, Metro Blue CDP 7243 8 30080 2 5. Marisa is a young
singer from Rio, whose first release in the US, Mais, in 1991, had us all
running to pick up a copy at Tower in Boston (I believe it is still available). She
doesn't use her voice as well in this one, (the long and unusual title refers to the
colors of the Brazilian flag, plus rose, which stands for cheerfulness, and charcoal for
tragedy), but she sings some very beautiful songs. We loved her rendition of Lou Reed's Pale
Blue Eyes, and got goosebumps listening to Esta Melodia. There's a Web site
