Finnish Forest & Park Service

HUNTING
Hunting is a relaxing form of recreation in nature.

The hunting of forest fowl (capercaille, black grouse, willow grouse, hazelhen) is a popular hobby in the immediate surroundings of the town of Rovaniemi. The Forest & Park Service areas are very significant hunting grounds for the locals and the hunting rights regulated by law are used diligently.

Holding a hunting licence for the Forest & Park Service areas provides wonderful opportunities for those living in the towns within the Province of Lapland. In addition to theses points and the limited stock of forest fowl, the sale of hunting permits has been limited for Forest & Park Service lands especially in the Rovaniemi region.

Hunting permits for forest fowl may also be obtained for hunting areas further away from the town centre, these include Meltaus and Ranua Accommodation for permit-holding hunters is also available in these areas. The sale of permits for the hunting of forest fowl and hare have up to now almost always met demand.

Last year the Forest & Park Service started small-scale development of guided hunting trips in its own areas using the resources of local tourist businesses.

Further information on hunting may be obtained from Forest & Park Service offices.
