BLOSSOM BIOGRAPHY
This is an official
biography from 'edel' - Bluemchen's record company.
BIOGRAPHY
- Three years ago the only difference between then 15-year-old Jasmin Wagner and her fellow
schoolmates was her unusual nickname, BLOSSOM. A nickname which by now, everyone in Germany knows: the singing
schoolgirl became one of Germanys most successful artists.
- Jasmin discovered her love for music at a very young age when performing with the school choir with teachers
and classmates being the only witnesses of her talented voice. Things changed quickly as soon as she had been discovered:
during a NDW-Party (a kind of retro-sound from the German new-wave-era of the early eighties) in Hamburg the two
producers Stani Silence Djukanovic and Arn Paralyzer Schlürmann noticed the teenager. Captivated by her passionate
and natural behaviour they invited her to do test recordings in their studio. After a couple of weeks of hard work
they came up with a single, that soon after its release peaked at number four in the German single charts and went
gold in March 96 after selling well over 340.000 units: Herz An Herz - a high speed
rave version of the German new wave classic.
- The fact that BLOSSOM and her producer team must have hit a nerve somewhere became evident in spring 96 when
the follow-up-singles Kleiner Satellit (piep piep) und Boomerang
all charted in the top ten. May 96 saw the release of her debut album for edel.
Herzfrequenz stayed in the German album charts for the best part of the year and
went gold in spring of 1997. The overall success was completed by two more hit singles, You
and me and Bicycle Race, BLOSSOMs contribution to the tribute album Queen Dance
Traxx Project.
- Spring of 1997: after an impressive string of hits the year before, BLOSSOM got swamped with prizes and honours.
She received the prestigious Echo award in the category Most successful national artist 1996. In the readers poll
of the German teenie magazines Pop/Rocky, Popcorn and Bravo she was voted best female singer, beating international
big names like Mariah Carey, Madonna und Tina Turner! (A title she reclaimed in the following years). Other awards
included Radio Schleswig-Holsteins RSH-Gold.
- In April 1997, BLOSSOM followed her five top hits with a remake of an early single by 99 Red Balloons-singer
Nena, called Nur geträumt. This, the first single lifted off her second album
Verliebt, peaked at position 6 on the singles charts. The longplayer itself debuted
on the album charts instantly after its release on position 7. As expected by everyone her first tour through Germany
became a major success.
- Today BLOSSOM is not only one of the most popular and bestselling teenie-acts, but also one of the darlings
of the German media. From German Music-TV-programme VIVA to big Saturday evening quiz shows and talkshows - Jasmin
is a regular guest and even worked as a presenter herself. She used to have her own radio show with Berlin-based
station Fritz und hosted the RTL2-show Heart Attack in co-operation with Jasmin Gerat (now MTV).
- And even the underground likes her: On the remix-album For Jasmin German indie-stars like Andreas Dorau, Headcrash,
Die Sterne, Holger Hiller etc. pay tribute to the songstress.
- Another highlight of her career was the recording of the official song for the 25th birthday of the German
version of children TV classic Sesame Street called Sesam-Jam (Der, Die Das). Soon
after the release of the single, the album (Verliebt) went gold.
- The first BLOSSOM-offering of 1998 came on the 18th of May with the release of yet another cover version of
a German classic from the early eighties. Berlin quartet Ideal had scored a minor hit in 1982 with the track Blaue
Augen - Jasmin and her producers turned the minimalistic guitar-driven tune into a modern piece of nineties pop
music. Blaue Augen, which can be found at number 19 in the singles charts only three
weeks after hitting the shops is the first taster for her forthcoming, yet untitled, third album to be released
in autumn.
- And there is no doubt that BLOSSOM will have a busy schedule in the coming months: She will be presenting the
highly successful RTL game show Mini Playback Show on German TV.
