Mission of Central College Abroad
International education at Central College attempts to develop
students' cross-cultural awareness, their ability to communicate,
and their ability to understand, live, and work in culturally diverse
environments. Further, international education strives to challenge
students to understand empathetically, live cooperatively, and act
responsibly in a changing and intricately connected world.
Nearly 30 years ago, Central College opened its first international program in Paris. Since then, more than 7,000 students from across the U.S. have studied abroad with Central on our eight programs. You've probably already discovered that hundreds of colleges, universities and even private companies have gotten in the study abroad act since then ... an act Central started in 1965.
You'll sense electricity among the members of your Central College
Abroad group, regardless of the program you choose. Your on-site program
director and resident faculty members ease your transition to new
surroundings, helping you make the most of your experience from the very
beginning.
Much of what you learn happens outside of the traditional classroom and beyond the carefully prepared curriculum. You discover a great deal about yourself and enhance your already keen appreciation of other points of view. New situations and intimidating challenges become adventures. You discover a new capacity to learn. And you live, learn, work and play in surroundings that broaden your intellectual horizon and deepen your understanding of your world and yourself.
With a long and respected tradition for maintaining the highest standard of excellence, Central College Abroad is one of the nation's best values in international study. Join us for what promises to be one of the greatest learning experiences of your life.
Top 5 Myths About Study Abroad
(And why they're not true)
5. It will cost too much money for me to study abroad.
Many study-abroad program fees are similar to the tuition, housing and board costs for a year at
an American college or university. In addition, most forms of financial aid can be transferred
to a study-abroad program, although the specifics must be approved by your home institution.
4. If I study abroad,I won't graduate on time.
As long as you plan ahead, there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to study abroad for a semester or even a year
and still graduate in four years. One year in advance is a good time to start planning a term abroad.
3. I can't study abroad, I don't speak a foreign language.
Six of Central College's eight programs are English language programs--three (England and Wales) are in
English-speaking countries, and two (Mexico, and the Netherlands) combine language study with English-language
coursework.
2. If I study abroad through Central College, the credit won't transfer back to my home institution.
Students from more than 200 U.S. colleges and universities have studied
on the Central College programs. Although every institution has its own procedures for approving study-abroad
programs, in most cases it is possible to have the credit for a Central program transfer back to your home institution.
1. I won't be able to take classes abroad in my major.
Almost every major can be studied on one or more of the Central College programs. Students also take coursework
to fulfill minors and liberal-studies requirements.
