VISIT THE FORUM!
The New Study Abroad Forum has been operational for about 6 weeks now. We have set up the hours of Mon-Fri, 2PM to 4PM EST as the designated Chat Hours. Each day we have at least several students visit the chat room looking for advice. We would like to see more international education professionals visiting the site during these hours to assist students who have logged in looking for help.
We also would like for you to encourage study abroad alumni to log in for the chat sessions. These returning students are a great resource for prospective study abroad students. Returning students will enjoy the opportunity to share their experiences with prospective students.
From time to time we are holding special events in the chat room. These events are publicized to users who sign up for our "chat announce list" (now more than 300 users). Special events will center around a topic of interest for study abroad students. For instance there will be a session on Thursday, March 12 at 2PM EST on Financing Study Abroad. Special Guests for this session will be Liz Kopp of SUNY Cortland and Joe Cronin of International Education Finance Corporation. Feel free to join us for this session.
We welcome suggestions for Special Event topics. If you are interested in hosting a session, please let us know by sending a note to mlandon@studyabroad.com. Special Event topics should be of general interest to prospective students.
USE THE FORUM!
The Study Abroad Chat Rooms goes largely unused except during the Mon-Fri 2-4PM time block. We welcome study abroad administrators to utilize the chat rooms. You can use this area to have a real time discussion with your colleagues or students overseas or to stage your own Special Event. Sessions can be public or private. There are endless possibilities!
Some Ideas:
- Hold an online study abroad fair
- Do one-on-one "interviews"
- Have a virtual meeting with your staff
- Hold a town meeting with your students who are currently abroad
We offer the use of the Study Abroad Chat Rooms free of charge. This is our gift to the study abroad community. Feel free to contact us about setting up your event.

We look forward to seeing our old and new friends!
