You must register (or pre-register) for the appropriate course or courses at your home campus to receive the proper credit for your semester or year abroad.
SUNY STUDENTS: The procedures for attending a Study Abroad program administered by another SUNY campus are clear and uniform throughout the SUNY system. Generally, SUNY students register (and pay tuition) on their home campuses and participate in a program of another campus. The Office of International Education at your home SUNY campus will be able to assist you in regard to completing the process of registering for study abroad with Brockport.
NON-SUNY STUDENTS: The procedures for participating in a Study Abroad program administered by another college or university differ from college to college. As a general rule, you will either:
In either circumstance, you will still be considered (for purposes of financial aid) enrolled in an accredited American college or university throughout the period of your participation and therefore will be eligible for federal and state grants and loans and also you will not have to begin to repay your student loans, etc.
If the Study Abroad advisor at your home campus has any questions or concerns regarding your participation in this SUNY Brockport Overseas Academic Program please have her/him contact the Office of International Education at Brockport. (We strongly recommend that you bring this Orientation Handbook to your Study Abroad Advisor and discuss your participation with her/him as soon as possible).
For SUNY's billing purposes, SUNY Brockport is considered the "HOME SUNY CAMPUS" of participants who:
You can expect to receive the bills for your tuition and fees sometime between the date you sign up [that is, pre-register] for the program and end of the semester just prior to the one that you will be abroad. Not receiving a bill for tuition usually means that you have not taken the steps necessary to be registered for the appropriate courses. Payment schedules and due dates vary from campus to campus; just be sure to make arrangements to have this bill paid just as you normally pay your tuition bill.
The Tuition Differential charge portion of the "Cost of Program" will appear on your bill from Brockport as a charge for "OAP" which stands for "Overseas Academic Program." Payment of the Tuition Differential charge is due at about the same time as your tuition bill is due. Since payment due dates vary from semester to semester and from campus to campus, you should follow the instructions that are included with the bill. Checks or money orders for payment of the Tuition Differential charge should be made payable to "SUNY Brockport" and sent to the Office of the Bursar, Rakov Center, SUNY Brockport, Brockport, New York 14420, (716)-395-2473. Any questions concerning payment of Tuition and/or Tuition Differential charges should be addressed to the Office of the Bursar.
METHODS OF PAYMENT:
The "Cost of Payment" may be paid at any time by means of a check or money order payable to "SUNY Brockport" and sent to:
The Office of the Bursar
SUNY College at Brockport
350 New Campus Drive
Brockport, NY 14420
Please write the participant's social security number on the check.
If you plan to have financial aid applied to your "Cost of Program," please check with the office of financial aid at your home campus to see whether your financial aid will transfer to a Brockport Overseas Academic Program. You should have your Financial Aid Office complete the "Financial Aid Arrangements" form which was included in the material contained in Orientation Memo I and return it to Brockport's Office of International Education.
If your home campus is not able to transfer your financial aid, Brockport's Office of Financial Aid may be able to process certain types of financial aid, such as Pell Grants, Stafford Loans (subsidized and un-subsidized), PLUS Loans and some types of New York State grants (including TAP). For further information contact Brockport's Office of International Education.
If you are anticipating receiving financial aid which will not be received by you and/or your home campus before your payments are due to Brockport, you must make arrangements for us to receive written notice of the source, amount, and the release date of that funding from your home campus's Office of Financial Aid. When we receive such notice we will obtain the approval of Brockport's Bursar for you to defer you "Cost of Program" payments against the arrival of your financial aid--but for you to obtain such a deferral there must be a notice from your campus' financial aid office that there is sufficient financial aid to cover the amount that you wish to defer until that aid is received. Regardless of any deferment of payments against their anticipated arrival of financial aid, the participant remains ultimately responsible for the payment of all of the "Cost of Program."
SUNY Brockport's policies regarding financial aid are explained in greater detail in Section 15 (pp.17-18) of the Policies Handbook.
SUNY Brockport offers Overseas Academic Program participants the option of paying the "costs of the program" [Tuition and Tuition Differential] by means of a time payment plan. This payment plan allows participants to pay those "Cost of Program" that are not covered by Financial Aid in four installments (each semester) by means of an extended payment plan through Brockport's Office of the Bursar. Brockport's Bursar charges a $22.50 service fee (per semester) to participants of this time payment plan.
Fall Semester Payment Schedule:
Payment 1: | 15 July: | one fourth of balance |
Payment 2: | 15 August: | one fourth of balance |
Payment 3: | 15 September: | one fourth of balance |
Payment 4: | 15 October: | one fourth of balance |
Spring Semester Payment Schedule:
Payment 1: | 15 December: | one fourth of balance |
Payment 2: | 15 January: | one fourth of balance |
Payment 3: | 15 February: | one fourth of balance |
Payment 4: | 15 March: | one fourth of balance |
You may enroll in the Brockport extended payment plan at any time after you have paid the non-refundable acceptance deposit to Brockport. Any amount up to the balance of the "Cost of Program" may then be paid in eight monthly installments (for full year programs) or in four monthly installments (for fall or spring participants).
The Brockport extended program payment plan may be used to supplement your financial aid package or a direct payment that you wish to make towards the "Cost of Program." Information about the Brockport Extended Payment plan is contained in the Orientation Memo I materials.
Some non-SUNY colleges require participants in Brockport's Overseas Academic Programs to pay tuition directly to that college and require Brockport to send the bill for the "Cost of Program" directly to that campus, rather than have their students pay these costs to Brockport. Consult with your campus' Director of International Education to see if arrangements are in place (or can be made) to have your home campus cover all (or a significant part) of your payments to Brockport by means of such an arrangement.
